Al-Olayah Tower

Riyadh – Saudi Arabia

This architectural design of Al-Olayah Tower draws inspiration from the traditional white robes of the Saudi Arabian people, transforming the intricate folds of the fabric into a unique architectural language that embodies the rich cultural heritage of the region.

The white robe is not just a daily garment; it symbolizes identity and cultural continuity for the Saudi people. By studying the fluid lines and elegant pleats of the robe, we have created a building form that harmonizes with its environment, showcasing both aesthetic beauty and regional significance.

In terms of sun shading, while traditional adobe structures effectively provide shelter, their heavy appearance can sometimes create a sense of confinement.

Our design takes a lighter approach by incorporating sloped sunshades that not only block direct sunlight but also allow soft, filtered light to enter the interior. This design choice not only alleviates the visual weight of the structure but also enhances the connection between the inhabitants and their natural surroundings, inviting them to engage with the air, greenery, and environment around them.

The shading system of this building relies on the cross structure of the facade. In areas with low latitudes, this structure offers better shading than vertical structure and compared to heavy walls, is also very lightweight.
